Hello friends and fishermen,
This season has been a late one; November did not have the large numbers of fish coming through, raising 3 to 6 blues a day.
The 24th November Helio and friends fished a couple of days, the first day they released 2 blues one over 700 lbs and the next day release 2 more with 300 and 400 lbs.
The Tournament this season was a small one with 5 boats from Salvador showing up, Spedatce from Transamerica Hotel and Adrenalina from Canavieiras. The first day fishing most of the boats raised 3 blue marlins and a few sailfish. Danny and Rainer were fishing on the Adrenalina. Danny hooked a blue marlin early and after a 35 minute fight had a nice blue to the boat with 742 lbs/ 333 kg. Later he had another nice marlin on around the same size but pulled the hook after a few minutes.
The next day was a little slower with most boats catching a marlin and a couple of sailfish. Adrenalina caught another marlin giving us first place in the tournament, Dodo IV second with 2 released marlin and Namorada II 3rd place with 2 released sailfish.
The first week of December had good fishing with Kai and Rainer from Germany, 15 blues in 4 days, releasing 9 marlin and 2 sailfish. The last day releasing 4 marlin and 2 sailfish.
Marco Paulo and Tiago from São Paulo had a great day on the 13th; Tiago hooked up to a nice marlin, the fish jumped down sea and ran half a spool of line off the reel after running down for 1 nautical mile, we caught up to the marlin, Tiago then fought the marlin close to the boat for another 40 minutes and finally released the 900 lb marlin. Later Marco released a marlin around 500 lbs.
The 28th Rene and friends fished releasing 2 marlin one around 600 lbs.
The 4th of January Jorge and his daughter were in for a great day raising 10 blues and releasing 5 the largest around 450 lbs.
The Tyson’s Pride is here from the U.S. for six months. The same day fishing alongside Adrenalina they raised 12 blues, released 6 and caught 3 yellowfin tuna all around 200 to 250 lbs. Two days before they raised 8 and released 5.
Tysons Pride, a 75 ft Merrit with a 100 ft mother ship Horrizon arrived at the end of November and has had some great fishing. They have been tagging marlin with satellite tags; one of two tagged of Ilhéus traveled 75 miles to the east and the other traveled 180 miles south in ten days. In January another game boat and mother ship will be fishing here as well the Hooker and Madam will be here for a few months.
As you can see the season is a late one this year with lots of marlin here in January, and we are expecting great fishing until March and even April. The large yellowfin tuna showed up in November this year and are still here in January. This is a good sign as the large tuna are normally here only for a month. The weather has been good most of the time with lots of bait on the bank and good current, which is what makes Canavieiras one of the great blue marlin fishing grounds in the world giving us a 6 month season and fishing all year round weather permitting.
Tight Line to all and a great new year.
