Report - December 2007 PDF Drucken E-Mail

Hello Fishermen & friends

The fishing here on the Royal Charlotte bank is still fantastic.

ImageOn November 26 David Watkins, Brother Andy and sons Colin & Ian returned to try their luck in the Canavieiras Tournament being organized privately this year. They had a few days of practice ahead before the tournament started.
The boys teasing the fish to the boat and pitching bait on 50 lb Tiagra stand up. A real adrenaline thrill watching a blue marlin attack the teaser all the way to the boat then attack the bait right at the back of the boat.

The first day out the boys raised 6 blues, teased two blues to the boat and got the hook to stay in one, 2 white marlins where raised, teasing 1 to the boat and caught him, the last was a sailfish, so the boys got a Grand Slam the first day out. Not bad. The next day the Watkins boys raised 2 more blues, caught them both and raised 2 whites with no luck teasing them to the boat.

ImageThere was a change in the weather and the current slowing down was not a good sign for the tournament. The next day we only raised 1 blue and caught it around 350 lbs. The Watkins family like to do everything, from rigging the baits to leadering the marlin and removing the hooks when possible, they have a ball. We raised 2 whites again but those were not hungry. The 29th dropped off with not much current running, we raised 2 White and 2 Sailfish but no luck getting them to attack.

Just before the tournament we had the opening of our new Canavieiras Big Game Fishing Club, filled with photos of large blues, sails and other creatures of the sea and…plenty of good whisky and rum.

ImageThe tournament was on and the weather was not good; we had 15 boats fishing, most from Salvador. The fishing was not hot, with no current, but most boats managed to raised 3 or 4 billfish. There were 2 boats with 2 billfish released for the lead. The next day was much the same and most of the boats raised a 2 or 3 marlin with a couple of large blues getting away. Mahi Mahi was the winner with 4 sailfish released. For the 2 days of fishing we did not raise a billfish, talking about going from “Hero to Zero”, well that’s the fishing game for you. There were 52 blues raised and 16 blues released with 5 sailfish and 4 whites being released as well.

The next day Bruno Vincintin was fishing, the tournament was over, the weather started to come good and the current was back, not strong but back. We only raised a white marlin but no luck getting a bite. The dorado’s were thick and great fun catching them on the spinning reels.

The weather came good, the current picked up and the marlin showed up again. Adrenalina Fishing Official IGFA Weigh Station weighed 787 lbs blue last week. There are 6 to 13 blues being raised again here on the Royal Charlotte Bank and the size of the fish is getting bigger with fish over 500 lbs being caught each day. This year we have a La Nina weather system off Chile in the Pacific Ocean and this is why we are having such good fishing. We have some days still open in January with the large blues showing up and we are expecting some great fishing ahead; so send me an email on Diese E-Mail Adresse ist gegen Spam Bots geschützt, Sie müssen Javascript aktivieren, damit Sie es sehen können about fishing in Paradise and having an adrenaline thrill of a life time.
